You Deserve to Take A Day Off to Enjoy!

Without the hassle of driving and finding a place to park

On Sunday August 22, 2010  we are going to visit one of Montréal's Best Farmers' Markets and enjoy its unique ambiances. We will shop for cheeses, bake goods, fruit, fresh vegetables, flowers, sausages, meats, wine, crafts, fish.... and bring insulated chests to put your perishables and treasures which will be stored in the bus storage area.

Because of the possibility of poor weather, on the way to Montréal', all the bus passengers will have the opportunity to
vote whether or not the whole group will be going to either the Botanical Gardens or the
Biodôme.

Note: We have been informed that: the Biodôme and the Insectarium
are closed indefinitely because of a labour dispute involving the city of Montréal.
The Botanical Garden will remain open as usual, according to their normal schedules.

There will be no on board vote to decide if we visit either the
Botanical Gardens or the
Biodôme.
We apologize if there is any inconvenience this situation may cause you.

We will spend spent about 3 hours exploring either the Botanical Gardens or
Biodôme and 3 + hours in Old Montréal exploring and shopping at the boutiques, partaking of the many outdoor cafes, visiting historic sites,
crafts shops, and watching buskers and artists at Jacque Cartier Square.

Le Marché  de l' Ouest is located in the west end of Montréal island. The market attracts an abundance of shoppers who come to this local market to buy baked goods, fresh seafood, fresh fruits and vegetables, a whole host of local and foreign cheeses, sausages of a number of varieties, cheeses, meats, wines of Québec  and France, freshly baked Montreal style bagels and produce grown in Québec and elsewhere.

Peppers at Le Marché de l' Ouest
The aisles are wide and when the bus comes to this market there will be baskets of tomatoes,
peppers, cucumbers, strawberries,  and long woven strings of home grown garlic.

And inside the market you can purchase freshly baked Montreal Style Bagels

We will be going to either Montreal's Botanical Gardens or the Biodôme depending upon the weather.

The Montreal Botanical Garden (French: Jardin botanique de Montréal) is a large botanical garden in Montreal, Quebec, Canada comprising 185 acres (748,668 square meters) of thematic gardens and greenhouses.

The botanical garden is located at 4101 Sherbrooke Street East in Maisonneuve Park, facing Montreal's Olympic Stadium. It contains a greenhouse complex full of plants from around the world, and a number of large outdoor gardens, each with a specific theme. The outdoor gardens are bare and covered with snow from about November until about April, but the greenhouses are open to visitors year round, hosting the annual Butterflies Go Free exhibit from February to April.

Ranked as one of the largest of its kind in the world, the Montréal Botanical Garden is a veritable living museum of plants from the four corners of the Earth.

The Biodôme is a unique museum of the environment. Live collections with more than 4,800 animals of 230 species and 750 plants species in four ecosystems from the Americas, each with a different climate… all under one roof!

The facility allows visitors to walk through replicas of four ecosystems found in the Americas:

The Tropical Forest is a replica of the South American rainforest.
The Laurentian Forest is a replica of the North American wilderness.
The Saint Lawrence Marine Eco-system is an estuary habitat modeled on the Gulf of Saint Lawrence.
A polar area that is divided into Arctic and Antarctic.

Old Montréal

Old Montréal Place Jacques Cartier

Watching the Buskers at Old City Montreal Street in Old Montréal

As you stroll along the serpentine cobbles you can stop at City Hall to admire its Second-Empire architecture, visit the archeological crypt under Pointe-à-Callière, Montréal's Museum of Archaeology and History, shop in the many boutiques for gifts for others and yourself, dance, sing, and watch the street performers on Place Jacques Cartier, have your caricature drawn by a street artist and visit the Marché Bonsecours, for its magnificent tin-plated dome, and for its world class designer boutiques. You can also find a great place to have some liquid refreshment and a meal for supper on one of many outdoor restaurants that overlook Place Jacques Cartier.  Or take a horse draw carriage tour of the Old City.

From Old Montréal, all roads south lead to the Old Port and an up-close-and-spectacular view of the St. Lawrence River.

As you stand on the shores of this mighty waterway, you'll see why the fur trading post established here by a group of French settlers in 1611 grew to become North America's largest commercial hub.

Today, impressive harbour-front facilities include a 2.5-kilometre-long recreational park along the river with promenades for  just strolling about, a state-of-the-art Science Centre, with interactive exhibits, a group movie game and an IMAX® theatre, river cruises for romantic dinners, bouquinistes, vendors of rare books, and warm, friendly bars where you can relax over a drink of wine or a latté with a clear view of the action. If you are lucky you will be part of the voyagers who are in the harbour with a cruise ship who are exploring the Old Port and Old City just like you.
